ENTERTAINMENTS.

EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. There was again a large audience at the Empire last evening, when the programme was screened for the, second occasion. To-night is the last occasion that this series will be on view. The usual matinee will be held to-morrow, when a complete new programme will be shown. THEATRE ROYAL. Patrons in attendance at the Theatre Royal last evening were treated to one of the most magnificent picture programmes ever submitted in New Plymouth, or, for that matter, in any part of the world. Chief interest centred around the Edison masterpiece, "Martin Chuzzlewit," which was an outstanding success, being a superb interpretation of Dickens' famous novel. The roles of the numerous characters were admirably filled, the acting being a feature of the piece. The films, which ran to 3000 feet, was indeed a magnificent product, and, "Oliver Twist-like," tne audience felt like asking for more. Its Old World flavor, and its fine character studies, quickly won it into favor. The picture was supported by a number .of well-selected films.
