SIR JOSHUA WILLIAMS.
PUBLICLY HONORED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. This (ifternoon Sir Joshua Williams was presented by the legal profession of New Zealand with a pair of massive sil ver candelabra in celebration of the Knighthood conferred on him. Among those present were Sir Robert Stout, all the Supreme Court .Judges at present in Wellington, Mr. Riddel, S.M., lending members of the legal professions, Legislative Councillors, members of Parliament and others.
Mr. H. D. 801 l made the presentation, and said that the idqa had originated in Canterbury, where Ilis Honor had first practised his profession. The desire of the Canterbury Society had met with ready acquiescence throughout New Zealand. All were proud of the public record which Sir Joshua had attained, and appreciated the courtesy which he had accorded to young and old, and which had adorned the Bench so much. They hoped that for many years he would retain his position on the Bench, and assured him that lie would never lose the place he had gained in the affections of those who best knew him, and had the best means of knowing him as a mail and as a judge. 'Mr. Hosking, K.C., on behalf of the Ota go Law Society, endorsed Mr. Bell's remarks. Sir Joshua suitably replied.
The inscription" on the salver reads: "Presented to the Hon. Sir Joshua Strange Williams, Knight, Justice of the Supreme Court of the Dominion of New Zealand, by the District Law Societies of the Dominion, in token of the affection and admiration in which His Honor has ever been held by the legal profession throughout the Dominion, and in grateful recognition of his long and distinguished judicial service, his eminent learning, and his exalted character."
