PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

.MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting was held on Thursday. Present: Messrs Young (chairman), Ducker, Harvey, Willcox and Hickey. The chairman welcomed Mr. Morton Hickev to the Board's table.

A halfpenny rate was struck for the current year over the rateable area. It was recided to draw the Egmont Council's attention to the fact that the repairs to the Cape road have not yet been effected.

For the purpose of a cattle track—thus obviating the necessity (of driving stock through the town —the Board decided to open up Gregory road from end to end and pipe the culvert. The committee reported having accepted Hendricksen and Young's tender of £375 for forming, etc., the Tu.ru road. Mr. Ducker brought up the muchneeded work and oft-urged question of metalling the Carrington road from Warea road. This piece has been formed and bridged, but the settlers arc unable to make use of it as the traffic needs require owing to the road not being metalled. The Board decided to ask Mr. Wilkinson, M.P., to urge this im--1 pcrtant matter upon the Minister.

FOREMAN'S REPORT. The foreman, J. P. Kennedy, reported: —Warea road: I have arranged with Mr. C. Magon for royalty on grave!. On account of so much bad weather the road is breaking up considerably, the worst parts being from Mr. G. Julian's to past the factory. I had to put Mr. Hill on the road to repair .bad holes that were dangerous. I ask for an al-' lowance of £25 to make further repairs ] to the worst parts of 'the road. (The | foreman was authorised to spend £2o). ' \ Upper Arawhata road: This road has [ broken up considerably within the last three weeks arid is now almost impassable in parts. The worst part of the road is from just over the factory to as far as Mr. Clegg's top ■ boundary. I ask for a grant of £4O to be spent in repairing worst parts right-away. I am told that most of the settler's on this road would be willing to have a special works rate the.same asthe Opua road, say, to raise £2OO to repair from Main road to as far as Mr. Bishop's gate. —The foreman was authorised to spend £4O. The members were of opinion that the settlers will have to go in for a special works rate to put tlie road in proper order. The ordinary Tate is not sufficient to keep the road in order.
