Their Majesties, with Princess Mary, embarked in a white andl gold State barge 200 years old, which had never before been so high up the Thames. It was rowed under the central arch of the bridge and thorugh lines of houseboats and launches filled with cheering crowds to the Royal enclosure. The freeboard of the barge was lavishly gilded and there was a canopy of rich crimson over the stern. The watermen were in scarlet and gold, and wielded eight white oars with scarlet blades. The earlier events were watched from the balcony of a pavilion. The Royalties re-embarked and lunched with the Hon. William and Ladv Smith, at Greenlands,. After a, slight thunderstorm they returned to the pavilion. The enthusiasm was heightened when their Majesties entered the umpire's launch to follow the ohief event.

The Leandev crew rowed well, lmt Australia at the mile post led by half «, length. Leander spurted repeatedly. Australia going strong kept a steady lead, and won comfortably by threequarters of a length, amid the greatest enthusiasm. Time, 7min Gsec.

Their Majesties were present and congratulated Sir George Reid on a memorable victory.

In the Diamond Sculls final McOulloch was indisposed. He sculled' pluckily, but was outrowed and relinquished the contest. E. W. Powell, -of the Vikings Club, led from the start .and won easily. Time, Smm 49see.

For the Thames Cup the Paris Club's orew beat St. Johns, Oxford, by a length. Time, 7min 33seo. The Stewards' Challenge Cup was won by New College, who beat Thames by two and a quarter lengths. Time, 7min 36sec.

The Queen distributed the prizes. The Australians and Frenchmen 'fcoth received wonderful ovations.
