Wholley; welter weight, Mitchell; middle-weight, Stewart; heavy-weight, Dwyer. MANAWATU CHAMPIONSHIPS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerstoii N., Friday. The Manawatu Association amateur championships commenced in the Opera House last evening before a large attendance. The boxing, on the whole, was fair, some of the bouts arousing great enthusiasm, notably that of Watchorn, a well-known welter-weight, !and Sailor Russell, of H.M.S. Pioneer, and Webby and Sandow, of Wellington. The proceedings commenced with the , novice section, which resulted as follows:—Weight 9st 71b.: M. Sheerin beat Carson, L. Sheerin beat Ware, Bell beat Steer, Kelly (Pahiatua) beat Cummings, Law (Dannevirkc) beat Hunt (Pahiatua). Weight lflst 91b.: Hilgjes .(Tokomaru) beat Hastings (Palmerston N.), Kelly (Pahiatua) beat MacßonaM (Palmerston N.). Downes (Longburn) ' /heat McNeill' fPahiatna), M. Gilmore (Tokomaru) bent Mansell (Danneiyirke),. I Ryder (Wellington) beat Bell (Palmer-, i ston N.). ) Second round.—Hughes beat '.Kelly,' : Ryder beat Gilmore.
