LXGLEWOOD. CFum Our Own Correspondents!. There seems to be a prospect of having a strong rifle club here in the near future. The promoters held a meeting on Saturday night in the Inglewood Coffee Palace. Mr. J. Sutherland was voted to the chair, and Mr. Cox acted as secretary. It was decided to form a committee consisting of those present, with power to add to their number, to j canvass for members and to work up the club generally. Shooting men all round are taking the matter up with enthusiasm, and already quite a number has signed the list. As soon as the required number has been secured a meeting will be called to elect officers and fix up mat- > ters generally. The lecture on "Love, Courtship and Marriage," given by Rev. Mr. Griffin, in the Wesleyan Church, on Monday evening, was very well attended. On Tuesday night a farewell social was given to Mr.'and Mrs. Richardson by the members of the Presbyterian Church. The Druids' Hall was secured for the occasion. A very pleasant evening was spent. Games, singing, reading and recitations all helped the time to pass very quickly. During the evening the Rev. Mr. Richards, on behalf of the congregation, presented a silver cake dish to Mr. and Mrs. Richardson and a medal to Master George Richardson. Messrs Curtis, Roberts and Law spoke voicing the appreciation and goodwill of all concerned. "Auid Lang Syne" and "lie's a Jolly Good Fellow," followed by three cheers, brought the function to a close. We are having quite a spell of dry weather (four days).

HURFORD ROAD. The weather for the last few weeks has been very told, with a good stiff frost occasionally," which has caused the grass paddocks to wear a grey appearance. The five-night euchre tournament came to an end last Friday night, Miss L. Smith carrying off the lady's prize, while Messrs G. Rpence and A. Smith had to play off for the gentleman's prize, the former winning. Throughout the five nights there was a good attendance, the last eclipsing all, there being twenty-six players present, At the conclusion the School Committee put a proposal forth to hold another five-nighty tournament, ami it was unanimously decided to do so, starting on Frklav, sth inst. It promises to be better attended even than the last, as a good many more have promised to attend. The first prize is a trophy valued at 7s Cd for ladies and gentlemen, and a small prize for the player who wins most points in any one night. A mishap occurred to Robert Kidd last week while practising in the gymnasium at the High School. The lad fell from the bar and broke his collarbone, but is now progressing favorably. The dairy factory is shortly to be closed down for a short time to effect an overhaul and to repair the water-wheel. The Oakura Dairy Co. are sending their cream along to our factory at present, as I believe they are putting m new boilers and are also overhauling. There is a rumor of a private party starting a cheese factory at the upper end of this road, but I do not think for one minute that it will come to anything, as the fanners are too few.
