WANGANUI DELEGATES*. ACTION CONDEMNED.
The action of the delegates from the -Sj Wanganui Education Board at the recent conference over tike Opaku education reserves, in approathing the Prime 1 Minister with a view to establishing a secondary school at Moumahaki, was re- | ferred to in condemnatory terms last | night at the Education Board meeting. J The matter was introduced when a par*- - graph was read from the chairman**. re> ' port embodying the result of the cofc ference. The chairman, in supplementing '■ the report, drew the board's attention to the attempt that had been made in Hawera to divert the funds from univCT» ; sity purposes in order to use them.-for ■ merely secondary purposes at MoumA- J haki. Mr. Kennedy considered that they J should jealously conserve the fund for I its original purpose. ~'M Mr. R. Masters spoke pretty on the matter. He considered it a con* J temptible action on the part of the nganui delegates after their proposal* had been vetoed in tile conference to - endeavor to get behind them in this way. , ■ He suggested that they should strongly protest. • Mr. Morton moved that the board "» enter its protest against any proposal ; to divert any portion of the funds \ the Opaku reserve for the purpose of }, establishing an agricultural college in *; connection with the Moumahaki State < farm, the board being of opinion that . such funds should be used only for the -1 purposes set out in the Act, viz.. to pro- - vide a university education for Taranaki ; children, and that this board dissents < from the action of the Wanganu! Education delegates to the late inference in. i suggesting to the Prime Minister that such a diversion should be made.
