Medley, who is contesting the New , Plymouth Mayoralty to-day, like many another British University man, was, for a number of years a pioneer in the [ backblocks of Wanganui, making roads 1 to his section and breaking in the country generally. It has been urged against ! his candidature that lie knows nothing j about the more practical work of the borough, namely, the supervision of the roads and footpaths. As a matter of fact he should know as much about the work as any other man on the council. The Wellington Times' London correspondent writes under date March 15th: Mr. Thomas Wilford, M.P., Mayor of Wellington, is at present spending some I weeks at Pan. His friends have already | heard with pleasure that Mr. Arbuth- [ not Lane, the eminent surgeon, has decided that it will not now be necessary for Mr. Wilford to undergo any operation. His present rest in the Pyrenees and the subsequent treatment which he will be able to follow out in New Zealand, are all that will be required to set Mr. Wilford on the road to complete recovery.
