INGLEWOOD NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Inglewood, Monday.
The Inglewood Operatic and. Dramatic Society have decided to stage the opera "Les Cloches de Corneville." They have purchased a complete wardrobe and scenery, which is almost new. The society has a membership of forty-seven. The first rehearsal is to be held to-night (Monday). "To be or not to be," "Town Hall or no Town Hall," "company lighting versus municipal lighting." These are the chief themes in our little world just at present, and are to be settled at the ballot box on Wednesday, the 24th inst. An enthusiastic meeting of Liberals was held in the Parish Hall on. Saturday night for the purpose of organising the support of the Liberal Party. It was decided to form a "Liberal Association." Mr. D. Todd was elected president, Mr. T. Nicholls vice-present, and Mr. Joe B. Simpson secretary. A strong working committee was formed. All present were enrolled as members. Those interested are requested to look out for notices of a future meeting, which same will be advertised in the Daily News in due course. The council has kindly granted permission to the Senior Cadets Football Club to use the recreation ground for play. The club membership now stands at 35. I It is probable that a large number of persons will avail themselves of the opportunity of visiting the camp at Hawera by the excursion trains. Considerable regret has been expressed that the excursion rate is not on the (lay of the regimental sports, viz., Wednesday. The Rev. C. Griffin,in the course of his sermon on Sunday evening, made feeling remarks on the Titanic disaster, and at the close of the service the choir and congregation sang "Eternal Father, strong to save" as an expression of sympathy with all those who are connected with that awful tragedy of the sea.
