TARANAKI HOCKEY ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Taraanki Hockey Association will be held to-mor-row. In presenting the tenth annual report the committee desires to congratulate the members on the success of the 1911-12 hockey season in Taranaki. There were nine teams competing in the championship contest, divided into northern and southern divisions, four playing in the northern division and five in the southern. The games were keenly eontested, and the attendance of the public showed that the game was taking on. The play-off for the championship between Inglewood and Stratford proved very interesting, as two matches had to be played, resulting in Inglewood gaining the shield. As regards representative matches, although only two matches were played, the association must be congratulated on the stand made by the representative teams. The association sent a team to Wanganui to compete for the Norden Cup, but were defeated by two goals to one, after having to play the extra time allowed for these matches. The Auckland Association sent a team to New Plymouth, with whom the match •resulted in a draw, two goals each. During the season, in addition to the representative games and championship conteats mentioned above, the •committee held a hockey tournament at New Plymouth on Coronation Day, clubs from all parts of Taranaki competing. Fourteen teams competed in the five a-side tournament, and six ladies' teams in the seven a-side tournament. Races for ladies and men players formed part of the programme, and, as a very enjoyable day's outing was spent, it is to be hoped that the association will continue this touranment. The Hawera clubs must be congratulated on winning both the ladies' and men's touranments. The financial position of the association is satisfactory, there being a credit balance of £9 odd. It is to be regretted that the Auckland v. Taranaki match was a failure financially, although with flie interest that the public showed in the matches towards the end of last season it is to be hoped that this season will prove more successful financially. The association has deposited with the New Zealand Hockey Association £2 2s, being the deposit for the championship shield match with Wellington. As it was too late last season to play the match, this association has been granted first call on the Wellington Association for the challenge match this year. The committee suggests that a challenge be sent to the Wellington Association to have the match played on June 3rd. At the same time the opportunity should be taken to return the visits' of the Hawke's Bay and Palmerston Associations, and as there will be excursion fares at that time it is to be hoped that the best players will do their utmost to make the trip. The thanks of the association are extended to Mr. Corkill, president, Mr. P. N. Rundle, for acting ns delegate to the New Zealand Hockey Association, to the referees who kindly gave their time to take charge of matches, and to the press for the manner in which they reported the matches and general hockey news.
