EMPIRE PICTURES. There was a very large attendance at the Empire Picture Palace on Saturday night, when the star film was a reproduction in picture form of Shakespeare's immortal tragedy, "Romeo and Juliet." The play was pictorially condensed in a most admirable manner, and the varying fortunes of the world's typical lovers were excellently portrayed. Of course, the story needs no description, for it is familiar to almost everybody, hut incidentally it is worthy of comment that pictures of this class are both instructive as well a» entertaining. It is in this direction that the picture proprietaries are doing such good work, for such films stimulate a desire for good literature and set even the thoughtless thinking. The remainder of the programme was admirably diversified, comic, scenic anfl tragic pictures alternating with well-conceived diversity. The programme will lie repeated' tonight.
