SAUNDERS 5 PICTURES. The extraordinary beauty of Pathe's latest star picture drama, "A Foe to Kicltelieu," drew a largo crowd to the Whiteley Hall last night. The reign of the French King, Louis XIII., was peculiarly rich in dramatic incident and for the magnificence of the King's Court. The incident and intrigue which is so magnificently woven into this story of love, hate and murder, is, one is bound to believe, historically accurate, but while it is not permitted to definitely sketch the moving story it is necessary to say that in this picture story there is nn intensity of action and the expression of all the human passions very rarely seen by Xe\v Zealanders on the stage. The superb effects of action can only be gained by the employment of principals possessing absolute genius. The actor chosen to represent the great llichelieu is peculiarly' fitted to emphasise overpowering personality of one of France's most notable men, and the most intense interest is forced by the movement, of the telling story. Apart from (lie movement the outstanding features of tliis film are. its stereoscopic effects. Pi>ilie Bros, have of late made a close study of interiors, for it is when the action takes place within doors that flatness of projection is pronounced. This is. it is believed, the first ambitious picture to be stereoscopicallv perfect, and the perspective is really wonderful. Not V-s marvellous is the magnificence of Hie natural coloring, while the action in the open air is of the highest interest, as it takes place in the vicinity of really historical French buildings. A fine collection of scenic, comic and dramatic films make up a programme that has no weaknesses.
