THE CONTRACTORS' VIEWPOINT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Monday. Present prospects of a settlement of the labor strike are not hopi\ful, the contractors under the drainage hoard having resolved not to yield in the matter of sub-contracting, which they contend is provided for in the terms of their contract with th,e drainage board. Tliey state that it is not a permissive but a legal right, the proviso regarding the engineer's approval being intended only to protect the board's interest in seeing that nothing is done detrimental to the proper carrying out of the work. The drainage board met to-night, and after full consideration of the matter of sub-contracting, it was agreed by the three parties concerned to meet in conference to-morrow morning. Five delegates will represent each party, and the union leaders have given an undertaking that before leaving the conference they will inform the board what course they intend to pursue.
