WHAT WAS WANTED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright London, October 26. Sir George Reid, in a speech at the launching of the Australia, said that treaties of peace between Britain, France and America were all very well, but what they wanted was such a treaty with Germany that would mean something to trade and commerce. Meanwhile warships prevented wrong and preserved peace. In that spirit they launched the Australia. Admiral Henderson said the Commonwealth was creating a naval spirit which would fit it to be an efficient member of the Empire, which was more than ever dependent on sea power.
