TARANAKI COUNTY COUNCIL

A special meeting of the Taranaki County Council was held yesterday present, Crs. J. Brown (chairman), Hopson, Stevens, Hill, Tate, McAllum and Browne. THE WAIWAKAIHO WEIR. It was decided to effect temporary repairs to the Waiwakaiho weir, the matter being placed in the chairman's hands with power to act. THE MAXGOREI BRIDGE.

The Council decided, on the motion of Messrs. Hopson and Tate, that a temporary traffic bridge he erected over the Mangorei river as suggested by the engineer and bridge foreman, and that Mr. Bond be empowered to proceed with the structure at once.—The Mangorei Dairy Company and the AVaiwakaiho Road Board agreed to contribute £lO each towards the cost. The Sash and Door Company declined to contribute, on the ground that they already paid a royalty of 2d per 100 ft. on timber carted over the road, and that the extra call would fall upon their carting contractor. The Council passed a resolution thanking the Mangorei Dairy Company and th<j Waiwakaiho Road Board for their assistance. GENERAL.

The Council decided to adopt the plan of a portable concrete mixer submitted by Mr. Bond, and to request Messrs. Okey and Rollo to construct it within two weeks from date, at a cost not exceeding £SO. It was decided to purchase, a "Felix" oil engine from Messrs. J. B. MacEwan and Co., on the understanding that it can be returned if unsuitable.

The Council will procure a pump from Messrs. Nixon and Nixon, at a cost of £4.

The chairman authorised to arrange for a trial of the steam road roller on the day following the next meeting. Applications will be invited for" the position of engine-driver at a rate of 10s per day.

The Council decided to increase from 2d to 3,1 per 100 ft. the rovaltv on timber hauled by Aft. T. V. '.Simons' traction engine on the Carrington road, and the foreman will proceed with the erection of a siding at once at Ratamii for the timber traffic.

Work on the road ofr Eliot road, as asked for by Mr. Webster, was authorised To bo done by the foreman at once.

NOTICES OF MOTION. Cr. McAllum gave notice to move that the Council take into consideration .Hi,, advisability of appoints a works committee, consisting of all the members of the Council, three" members (of whom the chairman shall be one) representing three ridings, to form a quorum.

Cr Tate will move at next meeting that the Council and the Fitzrov Town Board each appoint an engineer to report upon the question of affording protection at Waiwnifeailio bridge on the Devon road. p
