ANNUAL CONFERENCE. By Telegraph—Press AssMiatUn. Wellington, Tuesday. The land question was the first subject dealt with by the Farmers' Union Conference which opened to-day. At the outset there was a discussion. as to Whether all remits on the question should bo taken or whether one comprehensive motion should not be adopted. It was decided to substitute a motion reaffirming planks 3 and 8 of the union's platform, to the effect that all holders of land under the lease-in-per-petuity or perpetual lease of small grazing runs should have the right to purchase freehold at any time after the improvement conditions have fcteen complied with, either by an immediate cash payment or payment extending over an indefinite time, a reduction of rent to be made in proportion to such payments; that Crown tenants on the lease-in-.perpetuity tenure should have the right to acquire the freehold of their holding on payment by the lessee m the original value, and payment of the difference between the 4 per cent, now charged on lease-in-perpetuity and the 5 <per cent, charged to tenants with the right to purchase; further, that tenants under the renewal lease system should be given the option of purchasing the unimproved value of the freehold at a price to be determined by arbitration.

SERIES OF RESOLUTIONS. Wellington, Last Night. Resolutions were passed urging dairy companies, A. and P. Associations, amd branches of the Farmers' Union to use every effort to foster and encourage cow-testing; that pasteurisation of milk and whey be made compulsory; that the Government be asked not to relax in any way its endeavor to have imported bonedust properly sterilised; that specimens of noxious weodis be supplied to each A. and P. Association and Fanners' Union that will properly house them and all of them to be examined; that districts which derive no .benefit from annual expenditure in connection with State farms ,be supplied with a full set of wool counts properly arranged n.nd proper counts attached; that the month of January be included in the sheep dipping season (this resolution to apply to .Nelson province only); that the advisory committee be recommended to inquire if there is any necessity, apart from custom, for allowing one pound [icr cwt. draft on wool to secure to the buyer a cwt. of wool in fair commercial sense.
