ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

DROWNED IN A RIVER. By Telegraph—Press Association. I , ' Gisborne, Monday/ A man named Douglas, a new comer to the district, is missing. It is supposed he has been drowned in the Takapau river. Search parties are out. KILLED BY A TRAIN. Hastings, Monday. A man named Charles William Timnf, - aged 20, single, and a brick-layer, a resident of Tomoana, was killed by the train from Napier late on Saturday night. As the Napier train was leaving Hastings on Saturday evening, and while _ passing St. Aubyn street crossing, tit* " fireman noticed a man lying on the road near the line. The train pulled np, and \ a search revealed the body of a man who had evidently been caught by the ~r cowcatcher and sustained injuries that ; proved immediately fatal. Hastings, Last Night. A passer-by kicked the live 'wire away and earned the boy to a house, where he was revived. Clark's clothes were burned through, and the flesh scorched. He is suffering from shock. FATALLY BURNED. r Wellington, Last Night. t ' Mrs. Elinubeth Brodie. aged 60, was found lying dead on a hearth rug before a gas fire in her home this morning. Tho evidence showed that she had been f*r some time in a low mental condition. There were extensive burns on her body, * caused by the heat from the gas fire. The verdict was that death was due to shock from hums, aggravated fcy weak ' state of health, and that the evidence pointed to the burns having been re- i'S ceived accidentally. •
