The Margit has now completed the discharge of her cargo of just under i 2000 tons, the averaging being about 190 tons a day, a very satisfactory average considering that the wharf cranes had to be engaged in the work. Ballasting operations arc now proceeding and after completing this the vessel will bo towed into the stream. A new yardarm and some ironwork have to be fitted before the vessel will be able to put to sea. The vessel is now minus eight of its original crew, five having deserted and three having been paid off. Two seamen have signed on here for the run across to Australia, and Captain Petterson is now in Auckland endeavoring to secure other men. It has been discovered that five and a-half cases of whisky have been broached, all the contents having disappeared, besides some sardines. From fifteen to twenty tons of slag have been damaged by water. The captain hopes to get away for Sydney next week.
