Before the Foods Commission, Mr. Stead, Naturalist for tin; Fisheries Department, gave evidence that 12,000,(1001b. of fish were last year sent to the Sydney and Newcastle markets. Often fishermen were presented in their own interests from sending fish to market for fear of creating a glut. Shoals of salmon and mullet were penned up and allowed to escape wlien the market was not good enough. With better facilities for transit and distribution the industry was capalde of enormous expansion.
