An engine driver on a Grand Trunk freight train failed to notice an open siring bridge over the Welland Canal and the engine plunged in. The driver was 'killed, but the fireman leaped to safety. John Parson, ex-counsel for the Ameri«an Sugar lie fining Co., examined by the Congressional investigation committee, declared tliat Government control of business combinations was socialistic. The Government ought to allow commerce to make its own course untrammelled by restrictions.
