SYDNEY VEND CASE. By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright. Deceived 21, 0.25 p.m. Sydney, July 21. In the vend case Mr. Mitchell, counsel for the shipowners, admitted that in 1900-7 the people experienced difficulty in obtaining the class of coal they wanted. That, he said, was in consequence of the exceptionally large demand for foreign markets, but there was no suggestion of any difficulty since 1008. COMMONWEALTH IMPORTS. Received 22, 1.5 a.m. Melbourne, July 21. The Commonwealth imports for the last financial year amounted to £54,501,004, compared with £54,501,000 for the previous year. Imports totalled £42,038,317 six years ago. As the tariff has increased so have the imports. DOUBLE RAILWAY FATALITY. Received 22, 1 a.m. Sydney, July 21. A double railway fatality occurred at Newton station. John Eraser, a ganger, and John Castle, a fettler, were working on the line, when a train dashed into them, killing them instantly. Both were terribly mutilated.
