A German naval officer of the cruiser Bremen, who is visiting Halifax, criticised the Niobe, and said she would be useless in war time. The matter was reported to the Government, and representations were made to the German Consul at Montreal, who apologised. Admiral Kingsmill then issued a statement that the Niobe was merely a training ship.
