THE MEAT TRUST.
AT WORK IN AUSTRALIA. THE GOVERNMENT WIDE AWAKE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, July 20. Mr. Trefle, honorary Minister, in a speech referring to the Meat Trust,; said there were shipments already on the water for England belonging to, the trust, which had £40,000,000 at its back. In spite of every statement to, the contrary, he knew that the great American Meat Trust was at work in their midst. He intended the trust to know that they were wide awake, 1 and would take such steps as would enable them to snap their fingers at any trust. Besides the shipments made, large quantities had been secured in Sydney. The Government was aware that no stone was being left unturned to prepare the way for a solid base for the operations of the trust in Australia, particularly in Sydney. He had much information which he could not now use without prejudicing the interests of the men the Government wished to protect. The Government was steadily preparing to meet the situation, and taking steps to prevent any combine preying upon the producers. A Royal Commission would deal with the operations of the trust.
