TARANAKI LAND BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. ■ ri The usual monthly meeting of th« ,Taranaki Land Board was held at bli« Board's offices, New Plymouth, yesterday, when there were present: Messrs. Heslop (chairman), llattenbury, and Kennedy. Leave of absence was granted, to Mr. J. McCluggage. TRANSFERS. Transfers were approved as under:— Patrick Brophy to L. L. Newlove, section 16, block 10, Cape. W. M. Humphreys! to F. IT. Barnard, section 3, block 12, Ngaere. N. B. Fletcher to Julius Jacobsen, sections 3, 4, 8, and 9, block 4, Omona, subject to everything being in order. W. Dowman to F. F. Dowman, sections 18 and 10, block 2, Xgatimaru. Wm. Huzziff to G. Eagles, sections 8 and 9, block 10, Ngaifcimaru, subject to everything being in order. The transfer of section 1, block 11, Aria, from F. Stuart, C. L. and S. Bicheno to C. L. and S. Bicheno was declined until improvements are brought up-to-date. SUB-LEASES. The following sub-leases were approved: — R. C. Gardner to H. B. Kidd, section 7, block 9, Ngatimaru (subject to a, proper plan of survey being submitted). James Phillips to H. and G, Blank, section 8, block 11, Aria. The transfer of sub-lease of section 70, block 0, Ngaere, from L. C. and! W. L. Penny to L. C. Penny was approved. FREEHOLD. Applications for conversion to freehold were received and approved as follows:—J. A. Bradley, section 5, block 5, Mahoe, and L. Smith, section 3, block 2, Mahoe. RANGERS' REPORTS. H. T. Twiss reported on the value of sections 77, 78, 87, and 88, township of Mokoia for leasing, and of sections 94, 105, and 132 for disposal by cash. The ranger's report was adopted, with section 83 added, and effect will be given to the Teport. E. Tolme reported on portion of section 17, block 4, Totoro, which Taitoko Hiriaka applied to purchase to give access to his land adjoining.—lt wa« resolved that the application be agreed to, aijd that applicant have a survey and plan made at bis own expense. EXPENDITURE OF THIRDS.

The proposals for the expenditure of thirds as submitted by the following local bodies was approved, subject to the ranger's report:—Stratford County Council, £221 11* 9d. The council's attention is to be drawn to the necessity of spending the whole of the accrued thirds. Okato Road Board, £2B 17s Id; Wairoa Road Board, £4O 8s lOd; Oakura Road Board, £32 lis lOd The attention of the latter Board is also to bo drawn to the necessity of spending •the whole of the accrued thirds. The Whangamomona County Council applied to be permitted to expend the thirds accruing on section 2, block 15, Pouatu, partly oh the Whitianga and partly on Mauku roads. Mr, McCutchan waited on the Board objecting to the ap-plication-Resolved that the Board sees no way to alter its previous resolution (Mr. Kennedy dissenting).

NON-RESIDENCE. The following cases of non-residence in the Tangitu improved farm settlement were dealt with:— • R. N. Saunders, section 12, block 1, Tangitu; interest to he forfeited. J. R. Gillespie, section 2, block 7. Mapara; six mpnths' extension of time to have wife residing on section. J. H. Brown, section fl, block 1, Tangitu; granted till November Ist to reside. NON-COMPLIANCE. Selectors who are in default as regards residence or insufficient improvements were dealt with as follows: C. F. and W. 11. Marsh, section 5, block 10, Upper Waitara; non-residence. —The selectors to submit declaration as to residence. M. J. McAvady, section 4, block 2, Ohura; deficient improvements.—Six months' extension was granted. W. J. and G. H. Francis, sections 6 and 7, block 7, Waro; deficient improvements. —Six montlis' extension 'granted. J. F. Smith, section 3, hlock 7, Tangitu; non-improvements and residence.— Forfeited.

H. Larsen, section 3, Mock 12, Upper Waitara; non-residence—No action to be taken at present. Snow and Olson, section 5, block 7, Aria; deficient improvements.—Nine months' extension granted. G. E. Wilson, section 4, block 10, Pouatu; non-residence.—Throe months' extension granted in which to reside or transfer. A. Paulger, section 0, block 11, Cape; non-residence.—Nine months' extension granted. J. C. Harre, sections (i and 7, block 11, Pouatu; deficient improvements.— Interest forfeited and the sub-lessee also to be notified of forfeiture. N. B. Fryday, section 7, block 13, Ohura; non-residence and deficient improvements.—Six months granted in which to reside and complete improvements or transfer to some eligible person. E. S. Von Sturmer, section 5, block 3, Waro; deficient improvements. —Nine months' extension. W. Beard, section 1, block 10. Ohura; deficient improvements.—Six months' extension.

J. P. Ryiui, section 7, block 10, and section 4, block 11, Olmra; deficient improvements.—Six montlis' extension. F. E. Thompson, section 12, block 2, ITcao; deficient improvements. Six months' extension.

John Sheeny, section 3, block 0, Waro; deficient improvements.—Selector wars requested to apply 'to notice forthwith. F. Bloomfleld, 'section 4, block R, deficient improvements.—Six months' extension.

W. IT. Taylor, section 5, block 7, deficient improvements. Explanation satisfactory. GENERAL. Messrs. Marshall and llutton, solicitors, applied on behalf of Joshua. Harris asainst forfeiture of section 3, block 15, Ohura.—Deferred till next meeting. G. Ti. Ryan, solicitor, applied for extension of time to register transfer, Carroll to A. IT. Moore, of section 10, block 3, Opmiiike.—One month's extension granted. Messrs. Malone, Anderson and Johnstone, solicitors, were granted one month's extension in which, to register transfer of section 10. block 14, Waro, from M. McMahon to ('. M. Hawkeu.

The Commissioner brought up the question of difference in consideration on application and deed of transfer, E. A. Hill to E. A. and W. IT. Hill, section 1, block 3, Piopiotea West. Mr. \V. IT. Jury waited on the Board and asked for a lease <if sections SO and 88, Spotswood, as an addition to his holding.—The Board resolved that upon Mr. Jury submitting an application in ■proper ! f orm. it will rel'oinmcnd the disposal of the land under section 51. sub-section 2. of the Land for Settlem cult a Act, 1008. Messrs. O'Dnnnell, Gilbert, and Bullians applied for a license to cut and remove kahikatea, rimu. totara, and mntai from section 1, block 2. Piopiotea West. —Resolved to grant the license sub-

ject lo part being reserved for incoming tenant to be decided by ranger. Royalty on totara to be as stated, and on matai, rhnu and kahikatea to be one shilling per 100 feet super. A. G. Crawford applied for a yearly tenancy of section 9, Tongaporutu village, and offered rental of 10s per acre per annum.—Declined. W. A. Cleaver applied for lease of part of Moki railway reserve fronting sections 1 and 2, block 2, Pouatu.—Ranger's report to be obtained re valuation, etc. The ranger's report on sections 12 and 28, block 3, Ohma, was read, and it was resolved that the application of Bennett and Williams be declined.

T. J. A. Shepherd was granted six months' leave of absence from section 7, block 12, Ohura.

The Commissioner submitted valuation for improvements paid by successful applicant for section 30, block 11, Opunake. —It was resolved that the valuation be retained for the benefit of former holder.

In regard to section 9, block 1, Pouatu, it was resolved that balance of valuation be ■paid to 11. C. Roadley. after payment of Davey's account.

B. C. O'Dowda was reported in arrears with rent on section 48, block 4, Paritutu. —It was resolved that three months' notice of intention to forfeit be given the superintendent, and that the tenant be notified that unless all rent is paid within three months the section will be absolutely forfeited. W. B. Reid, selector of section 4, block 7, Mahoe; was reported to have abandoned his holding, and rent was now in arrears.—Deferred till next meeting.

MessTS. Gaustad Bros, applied to surrender their lease of S.G. run, section 44, block 11, Waitara,—Ranger's report to be obtained. C. McHardie asked to be allowed to effect improvements required for section 25, Mock 2, Ohura, on section 20 adjoining.—Six months' extension granted.

11. Paul notified that he desired to terminate the tenancy of section 14, block 1, Aria. —Surrender accepted; ranger to report as to future disposal.

The Commissioner submitted the case of R. M. Harden and transfer of half interest to Jas. Rentoul.—Resolved to give six months' notice to have matter completed by registration or Board will forfeit.

A plan of closed' road adjoining section 2, block 10, Ngatimaru, was submitted and approved. Messrs. Spencc and Stanford appealed on behalf of B. McMaster against forfeiture of section 1, block 4, Rangi, and submitted an application to admit H. Richards as a partner. Both Messrs. McMaster and Richards waited on the Board. —Consideration held over; ranger to report at next meeting on valuation, and also about blocking tracks.

EDUCATION RESERVES. TRANSFERS. The following transfers were approved: — McGregor and Crockett and R. A. McKenzie, section 2. block 8. Opaku. E. E. Middlemiss to J. T. Hawthorn, section 3, block 8, Waitara. A. Alexander to D. F. Green way, section 96, block 8, Cape. Coley and Watson to E. and Wm. Everiss, section 03, Manganui district. SUB-LEASES. G. and S. Pitt to H. Goble, section 02, Moa district.—Approved. G. Kirk to Wm. Cochrane, section 1, Mock 13, Huiroa. —Approved. GENERAL. H. T. Twiss, ranger, reported re N. 1 Parker, sections 5 and C, Mock 27, Patea. Six months' extension granted to tenant. Consideration of his report on section 10, Mock 12, Hawera, was held over. M. E. Gaykrd's application for reduction of rent on section 104, Hua and WaJwakaiho, was till next meeting for the ranger's report. W. D. Colson applied to have lease of section 113, Manganui district, surrendered.—Agreed to, costs to be paid | by lessee.
