Much comment has been occasioned by Lord Morley issuing a whip with a view to carrying the third reading of the Parliament Bill. In the whip he emphasises that momentous results are involved both immediately and in the future, making the occasion truly critical.
LORD MORLEY APPREHENSIVE. Received 18, 10.40 p.m. London, July 18. Owing to some fifty Opposition peers privately declaring their determination to vote against the third reading of the Parliament Bill, Lord Morley is apprehensive lest it will be defeated by a minority of Unionists through the abstentions on their side. Lord Lansdownc is anxious to pass the Bill as amended. Lord Morley is anxious to pass the Bill to enable the House of Commons to reject the amendments.
