AUSTRALIAN RACING. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, July 17. Wild West won the Rosevillo Flying Handicap. THE RACING COMMISSION. CONFERENCE OF COUNTRY CLUBS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. A meeting of representatives from country racing dubs was held on Saturday night to consider matters affecting their interests and the position of country clubs, in the matter of representation on the New Zealand Racing Conference and on the Metropolitan Committee, was diseußsed at length. Resolutions were unanimously passed that the time has fully arrived when tke representation of country clubs on the New Zealand Conference should be equal with that of the metropolitan clubs, and the meeting earnestly requested the conference to grant the concession; that the New Zealand Conference as at present constituted does not give the representation desired by country clubs, and they desired the conference to set up a committee to see if it was desirable to set up a New Zealand Jockey Club; that a deputation wait on the chairman of the Racing Conference to lay before him the resolutions passed at the meeting, coupled with the request that the conference grant the concessions asled for, and that the delegates report this (Monday) afternoon at 2.30.

At this stage the meeting discussed the Racing Commission's report, and the meeting resolved that grave injustice had been done to country racing clubs by cancelling totalisator permits. If the House opined that permits should only affect those clubs racing more than two days a year the chairman of the meeting was empowered to promote a Bill for consideration in the ensuing session of Parliament having for its object that Parliament should give preference to clubs holding one day meetings. AH present will form a deputation to Sir James Carroll this morning to lay before him the resolutions passed and the grievances under which country clubs are suffering, DEPUTATION TO ACTING-PREMIER.

REGULATIONS AND PROPER CONTROL. Wellington, Monday. The representatives of country racing clubs waited on Sir James Carroll and Mr. Buddo this morning, and put before them the resolutions passed at the meeting held here on Saturday night. It was stated that thirty or forty members of Parliament had given an assurance that they were prepared to do justice to the clubs adversely affected by the Racing Commission's report and that there was a strong feeling of resentment throughout the country at the number of clubs proposed to be wiped out. _ It was also stated that the Commission had flouted the intention of Parliament and violated the Act. Sir James Carroll said the supporters of sport could have taken a bold stand long ago. He agreed that. Parliament intended country clubs to have special ; coasideration. He was glad the question had assumed an acute form, for he had for years been trying to impress en the sporting world the dangers ahead and could never strike a note, of response. It would have been wise had some court of appeal been provided, foi the Government could not now stultify itself by asking Parliament. Personally, he did not think there was too much racing in New Zealand. What they wanted was regulation and proper control to remove vices attached to the sport and to assure everything being fair and above board. In conclusion, he said a private member could intro-' duee a Bill and the Govomment could facilitate the matter being gone into.

TROTTING CONFERENCE. Wellington, Monday. At the Trotting Conference it was resolved tlint in all programmes of clul>s there shall lie at least one race per day for unhoppled horses of the trotting gait only, and at least one seventh of the stakes given shall he allotted to such ra«es. A motion hy the New Zealand Trotting Association that no steward or member of the committee of a club shall he interested or connected in any eontract with the club of which he is'either a steward or committeeman, was lost on a division.
