TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. The annual general meeting of members of the Taranaki Jockey Club was held last night, when Mr. C. M. Leppei presided, in the absence of the Hon. 0. Samuel, M.L.C., the president, who was in Wellington attending the Racing Conference. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the balance-sheet, read the annual report of the committee as follows: "Your committee has again to submit a very satisfattory balance-sheet for the year's working, which shows a net profit of £4l 4s 3d, after making a very liberal allowance for depreciation on buildings and plant, and spending £lB6 7s 8d on permanent improvements. The outlay pt £l3l 18s 3d on racecourse maintenance goes to show that the committee is endeavoring to bring the club's property to an efficient state. TBe caretaker's cottage has been enlarged and thoroughly renovated during the year, the contract for which was £166 158. The cottage is now in first-rate older. The training track has been »ompletely fenced on the inside, with a substantial sheep-proof fence, which should obviate any possibility of an accident from straying stock. It Will also allow the committee to re-arrange the training tracks should it be considered necessary at a future date. Our only liabilities are to the bank £378 2s Id, and balance due on contracts £46 Ids. There are outstanding subscriptions and fees, together with cash in hand, which amount to £125. The racing for the season has proved very satisfactory, the nominations and acceptances showing a record for the club. Members must view with great satisfaction the Commissioners' non-interference with the conduct of our affairs." Mr. Lepper concluded by referring to the excellent work of the secretary, whose thoroughness had made his work and that of the committee a mere bagatelle.
