PARLIAMENT BILL. Bj Cable—Press Association—Copyright London, July 16. Mr. Runciman, president of the Board of Education, in a speech at Bodmin, said that the Government had resolved to reject all the Lords' amendments to the Parliament Bill. LIBERAL PEERS AND THE GOVERNMENT. HIGHER TITLES WANTED. Received 17, 11.28 p.m. London, July 17. The fact that the Government was scarcely able to rely on the support of half the existing Liberal peers during the recent divisions, is much commented on. It is reported that the majority of the absentees arc barons, and the dissatisfaction is due to the incident in connection with the proposed creation of peers to pass the Parliament Bill, many distinguished Liberals to whom ipeerages have been tentatively offered insisting upon receiving viscounties instead of baronies. Dissentient Liberal peers say that the new creations should be confined to baronies, and they themselves be made viscounts. MR. TIM HEALY. London, July 16. Mr. Tim Healy, speaking at Cork, said it was exceedingly unfair to dock fourpence a week from an Irish laborer's miserable wages, as he would never get it back. It would go to relieve Mr. Lloyd-George's friends in the congested urban areas in Britain.
ELEMENTARY EDUCATION BILL. Received 17, 10.10 p.m. London, July 17. In the House of Commons Mr. T. E. Harvey, on behalf of the Educational Settlement Committee, supported by Colonel Williams, Mr. C. Bathurst and Mr. Silvester Home, introduced the Elementary Education in England and Wales Bill, providing, inter alia, for facilities for religious instruction according to parents' wishes.
