Following is the Government Meteorologist's weather .summary and forecast: The barometer has risen steadily in the south, but has had a falling tendency-to-day in the north. Moderate to strong northerly winds prevailed northward of Cook Strait, and changed to southerly in the south in the rear of the departing low pressure area. Beneficial rains fell in many parts on the east and west coasts of the South Island, and rivers .were reported in flood this morning on the West Coast.
