COLONIALS' ESTATES. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, December 28. The estate of Frederick Sheppard Grim wade, of Melbourne, lias been proved at £269,495. He bequeathed to the Melbourne Public Library Tebbit's picture "Ancient Giants," and for distribution amongst his employees at McLeay River, who have been five yearn in the firm's service, £3OOO. The estate of Richard Oliver, formel ly Postmaster-General of New Zealand, has been proved at £78,975.

AMERICAN ELECTION FRAUDS. New York, December 28. The Mayor, the Chief of Police, and seven city officials, at Gary, Indiana, have been arrested on a charge of having altered votes at the State election in November.

DEATH OF AN ACTOR. New York, December 28. Frank Worthing, a Scottish actor, died suddenly at a theatre in Detroit, and the performance was abandoned. BRITAIN'S HOLIDAYS. London, December 28. On the extra bank holiday yesterday showß and business houses generally were closed. The Clyde shipbuilders had only a single day's holiday owing to pressure of work.

NEW YEAR HONORS. London, December 28. The New Year's honors list will not appear till Monday.

OVER-CAPITALISED. London, December 28. Debenture holders in Waring and Gillow, Ltd., have appointed the receiver to prepare a reconstruction scheme for the company, as it has been found impossible to earn dividends over so large a capital.

, AN ARABIC POMPEII. Madrid, December 28. The Spanish Government is excavating Abderahman's city of' Azzahra in Andalusia, which was abandoned after its sack by the Mudarite Berbera in 1009. It is described as an Arabic Pompeii.

STATE PAPERS STOLEN. Constantinople, December 28. The Sofia correspondent of the newspaper Tanin reports that all the secret documents at the Turkish Legation ■there have been stolen. The theft is attributed to the Bulgarian desire for evidence regarding Turko-Roumanian relations.

MINERS' CONFERENCE. London, December 28. The Scottish Miners' Conference recommended one joint conciliation board for Great Britain to obtain uniformity of wages and working conditions. They declared themselves entitled to 8s a day for eight hours' work.
