The night was glorious, and the school crowuud. | The building was prettily decorated. Tne decorations were a credit to Mr. Thomas, the schoolmaster, and the children and parents who helped him. The programme opened with a tableau, and iinished with the cantata, "White Garland," it being very well rendered. Miss Rita Hill, as "Queen," carried out her part splendidly, and received a great I deal of commendation. MAKETAWA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The few days of fine weather previous to Tuesday last allowed good pregress to be made with ' " Durham Road Creamery, but the rain, fog and wind from Tuesday till Ihursday put a stop i tdoor v.or.c, and consequently ..no- of the creamery is further yed. However, the building is so tar advanced now ,that, should dirt;,, weather come round again, work on the inside can be proceeded with. Tenders are out for supply of firewood for the creamery, and also for a considerable quantity'of boulders for metal for approach to building. Certain it is that the Maketawa Company's first creamery, judging by present appearances, will be one of the best in the district, and \ understand that those suppliers interested intend in the near future to do a good deal of improvement to the surroundings in the way of planting, etc. More power to them. I am informed that at a recent wedding in the district some of the visitors had the harness of their horses almost completely hacked to pieces by mischievous hoodlums. The offenders will explain their conduct to the Magistrate shortly. Tenders are invited for the yearly supply of boulders for repairing metai for the roads in the immediate district, and there should be a chance of employment for a few men used to handling boulders and stone napping. I hope this note will come under the eye of any out-of-works that may be in New Plymouth. ' Mr. Jack Thomas, who about two years ago or thereabouts met with a serious accident at the Egmont Roaa sawmill tram, and who has for some time been residing on the corner of Durham and Mountain roads, is at present in New Plymouth Hospital to undergo an operation to the bone of the arm injured at the time. Mr. Thomas has for two years had no use of the arm, and much sympathy is expressed for him and his family, and on all sides one meets with the hope that the operation will be a successful one.

The proceeds of the Norfolk Roan School concert, in aid of the prize fund, amounted to close on £B. Those interested are much gratified at such a return. The Durham Road School concert, also in aid of the prize fund, eventuated on Friday last. The building, which ban been tastefully decorated with ferns and native flowers, was crowded, notwithstanding that the evening looked anything but promising. A fair number of visitors from other parts attended. The proceeds, amounted to close upon £O. The items submitted by the young pupils, notably, the action song, "Captain Bab}- Bunting," and colored scarf drill, were very creditable, while the song by former pupils, "Three Olds Maids of Lea," was a fair screamer, the get-up being remarkably funny. Mr. R. Frewin, of Inglewood, who is always to the fore

when children's interests or amusements av • concerned, gave some comic songs and recitations in character, which were thoroughly enjoyed by all. The action song with flags by senior pupils was another item that pleased everyone, and T think all present thoroughly enjoyed tl em - , fives. The programme was as unclei Piano duet, the Misses Rridgeman; sons. "Captain Baby Bunting." scholars; recitation, Mr. C'urrie; scarf drill, scholars; song (in character), Mr. Frewin (encored); son'.
