. NEWTON KING'S REPORT'FROM BRITAIN. Messrs. R. and W. Davidson, of London and Glasgow, have sent the following report to their local agent, Mr. NewI ton King, under date July 23: Butter.—AH over the country our various markets have been very disappointing. The rise of 3s Od advised from Copenhagen last Thursday has not fully responded to here, buyers objecting to pay the advance, and only purchasing absolute requirements. The market closes decidedly weaker, with considerable stocks carried over. Oni' advices from Copenhagen state that'the market there is steady, and the com j mittee at their meeting to-day have advanced the quotation one krone. Tlie weather continues temperate, and is favorable to good pastures and a large 1 make of 'butters and cheese. Danish and 1 Swedish butters: The shipments to this country show a slight increase. int. market has been irregular and closes weak. A fair quantity has been left' over unsold. We quote strictly choicest 1 qualities 120s to 121s. Siberian: The demand on the spot this week has been fairly good, and arrivals have been well' bought up at unaltered rates. Strictly choicest commands 100 s to 108s, choice 104s to lOtis, with lower grades obtainable at 102s. Our telegralipic advices from Siberia at the beginning of this week indicated that tlie market there 1 , continued to be very strong, but since then we have had further telegrams' which state that it has weakened considerably, and prices show a reduction 1 of Is to Is 6d in Kourgan, up to about' 4 3 in Barnoul. With the disappointing' prices which 'have been prevailing on our Home markets for the past four or five weeks, compared with the cost in Siberia, prices in Siberia, will have to 1 come considerably lower before we have 1 a really healthy market. Irish creameries: The quantity coming forward at' present is very large. The quality continues to be good, and at present pricesare very moderate in comparison with Continental butters. Arrivals are being kpt well cleared. We quote choicest' quality 114s to 110s. Irish farmers' fir-' kins continue in good demand, and at 1 present prices are exceptionally good value, viz., 98s to 102s. Canadian creameries. Current prices this week on the spot are 114s to 115s. Cables from Canada advise that the markets there are again firmer, and prices to-day for prompt shipment range from 114s w litis c.i.f. At these prices we are afrai-J the merchants ou this side will be very chary of operating. Australian and New Zealand butters: Very little on hand. Nominal prices—Choicest NewZealand 114s to HUs, choicest Australian' 112s to 114s, choice 108s to 110s. Butter imports to the United kmgI dom—The total arrivals of butcr from t January 1 to July 18 for the last torn, years are as follows:—1005, 2,375,929 'ewt.; 1900, 2.535,423cwt.; 1907, 2,582,330 cwt.; 1008, 2,370,193cwt.
