AN IMFOIU'AiNT REPORT. The Chief Inspector reported to the I Education Board last night the J amounts received from the Department in capitation and otherwise and gave the lull list of attendances at ,| the various classes (to be published in a future issue). In connection with [ the cookery classes he pointed out the Department had brought in an amended regulation to take effect on Ist January next, whereby the capitation I on the scuool cookery classes wouTS be reduced from 15s to 12s (id per unit J of average attendance. Taking the numbers in atteuuance at these classes tibia year as a basis to work on, he j found that this meant a direct loss of

at least £3O to the technical funds. I Again, for each school class in cookery, the Department allowed capitation for I a course of only twenty lessons, and, therefore, any lessons given in excess of that number meant a loss to the funds, as the cost of coaW groceries and other materials used at the classes I was not allowed for by the Department. It was evident tnac, owing to the small number of large schools in

the district, the Board at the present time was not able to kcap an inslructress dn cookery fully employed l'or more than six months in the year. Moreover, it must be understood that, according to the term of the appointment the cookery instructress must be I paid an extra fee for all adult classes, and so her time could not be employed in this way except at a probable

loss. For these reasons he recommended that the instructress, Miss Tilly, be given notice that her services would be determined at the end of the present year, and that a committee be set up to draw up fresh conditions of appointment. The recommendations were adopted.
