COMPENSATION FOR CONDEMNED STOCK.
Per Ptwb Association. Auckland. Last Night. An important question was brought up at a meeting of the Auckland Agricultural Association by Mr. R. Salmon. The master butchers, he said, were inaugurating an insurance fund for condemned stock with farmers. This matter was one of great importance. Butchers: frequently bad beasts condemned. and the result was a direct loss to Hie farmer, who bad to stand the responsibility. Under this insurance plan, it was proposed to make a levy per beast on fanners, and the fund would lie drawn npon to compensate the settler whenever a beast was condemned. Mr. John Massey said he thought it would be l>ettcr to make the C.ovcrnment pay fnll compensation. Mr. Gray urged that the Farmers and butcher* «honM exercise better jndgment in the Sale and purchase of stork. (Mr. Salmon replied that it frequently happened that the best-looking animal* were those condemned by the government official- for tulierculosis. It was agreed to leave the matter in abeyance until »omf further information of the proposed insurance fund **me liefore the committee.
