ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Per Press Association. Wairoa, Wednesday. An intoxicated native named Kairaikano, aged 2(1, a single man, fell or jumped from the Wairoa bridge near the drawspan, and was drowned. The body has been recovered. Gisborne, Wednesday. A man named Thomas Rogers was drowned in the Hangaroa river near Tiniroto while attempting to cross the river on horseback. Flood water cam* ried the horse under. Deceased was, not seen again. luvercargill, Last Night, •luhii Wolilers, while working at a circular saw this afternoon, had two lingers cut oil his left hand and two other lingers badly damaged.

Mr. Will Derby met with a painful accident at Huiroa on Monday. He was engaged in working a log-hauler, when, through some unaccountable cause, his hand became entangled in the machinery, which cut one finger right off and badly mutilated his hand. The sutferer came into Stratford, where he was attended to by Dr. Paget—Post. A serious accident occurred on Tuesday night, says the Stratford Post. Mr. T. N. Pa lon and Mr. R. Bird were riding home from Eltham, and on Hearing the Stratford side of the Warwick road tin- lormer's horse slued and dashed into a. trap which was standing opposite Thome's house. It appears that the horse ran into one of the wheels of the trap, and broke its neck, while Mr. Paton had one of bis legs badly injured. Help was quickly at hand, and the unfortunate man was made as comfortable as possible until the arrival of Dr. Mcnzies, who order-id the patient to the Stratford Hospital. If was at lirst thought the leg was broken, but after careful examination it wan proved this was not so; it was terribly lacerated, however. The horse that was killed was only bought a few days ago at the Hawera saleyards. Little damage was done to the trap.
