NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Borough Council met last night. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr. E. Dockrill), Councillors .1. Boon, X'. Ball ringer, G. Coleman, J. West, W. A. Oollis, C. T. Mills, W. Morey, H. R. Qrttlev, and G. W. Browne. "COMMITTEE REPORTS.

The Abattoir Committee reports:— la tbe opinion ot the committee it is not desirable to incur expense in providing temporary steam power to drive the refrigerating plant. The Works Committee recomuienJi: —That the letter from Messrs. Parker ■ml King requesting the Council to bear portion of the upkeep ot the old Alb.'Tt road be referred to the engineer to report upon. That the plans of the lewis of liardet street submitted by tbe en- I gineer 1* referred oack for further consideration. That the Estimates Committee be recommended to set aside a sufficient sum to reinstate the weignbridge (estimated cost £OB 10s). Th;t the Works Committee be authorised to approach the Minister for Railways with reference to obtaining the old railway Use and bridge over the Henui as a cattle track. The Carnegie library Committee recommended the Council to expend £lO for the maintenance of the ladles' room In the new building. Th® committee also ssked the Council to recommend t.. the Estimates Committee to place £1'") on the estimates to complete the furnishing of the library, and recommended that the building be insured for £ISOO. —Speaking of the rest-room, Cr. Col'.is ■aid that the rest-room was becoming more and more used, and over two hundred people visiteu the room on a recent Saturday. It having been found that the business to be transacted did not warrant daily meetings, it had been decided to hold only weekly meetings until business improved.—Referred to Reserves Committee.
