ARBITRATION COURT.

Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the Arbitration Court) sitting today a number of parties were attached to the following awards:—Wellington Timber Yard, Cooks and Waiters (hotels and restaurants), Carpenters and Joiners.

R. A. Wakelyn, charged with a breach of the bricklayers' award by employing a non-unionist when a unionist, was available, was lined £lB and costs. Charles Brown proceeded against the Union Steamship Company for £SOO compensation for injury sustained while employed by the company lumping coal from a hulk to the Warrimoo. It was shown that he was knocked off a plans, falling between the two vessels and sustaining a fracture of the pelvis aai other injuries. He was thereby totally incapacitated. Since the accident he had received £7O 4s (half wages) in respect of the injury during the period of incapacity. The company did not contest the claim beyond raising a question as to the advisability of paying a lump sum. The company was willing to pay in accordance with the Court's award. The Court awarded £20(1. which was considered to be reasonable under the circumstances. Costs were allowed.

The case of William Watson, bootmaker, who claimed £1 Bs per week from .I'otter and Son, boot importers. Wellington, was an unusual one. On 23tU September, 1900, claimant, while pulling the heel oil' a boot with a pair of nippers, juried one of his hands through the nippers slipping. It was alleged that tubercular condition of the palm was set up as a result of the jarring, that lie had been temporarily totally incapacitated from work, and that he would he partially incapacitate I permanently. The sum of .€1 5s per week Was claimed for the period during which he was incapacitated.
