A SUSPICIOUS DEATH.
Per Press Association. kelson, Friday. A man named Aiken, a miner, of Collingwood, was found drowned in a gutter in St. Vincent-street this morning, lie ' was lying face downwards. There wei'3 I blood-stains in the vicinity. Deceased's j hands wore in his pockets. Suspicion' is aroused, and the police are invjstigatmg. Later. Aitkon was a Puponga miner who arrivod at Nelson with other miners 011 Nunday. There are 110 marks of violence except a graze above one eye, a ] slight cut on the chin, and indentations on the nose and forehead, probably caused by stones in the fall. Blood marks wore found in the vicinity, but 1 it is unknown whether human or not. i Deceased was addicted to drink, and was 1 separated from his wife. A summons for £G7 arrears was found on him, and 1 lie was due to appear at the Westport ] Police Court. The theory is that Aitken , committed suicide.
