CANTERBURY A. AND P. SHOW.

Per Press Association. Christcliurch, Last Night. Hie Canterbury A. and P. Association's Metropolitan Show was continued to-day in wet weather. The bulk of the judging took place during the day, and the competitions were held in the afternoon. All of the sheep classes were well filled. There was a magnificent exhibition of English Leicesters, Messrs. It. and J. Keid and Mr. E. It. Leand capturing the honors in the two principal classes. There was also a gratifying display of Border Leicesters, included among them being a number of line rams recently imported from Scotland. There was a rather butter show of Lincoins than usual, this breed having lately come into groat favor. Messrs. Bedle.v Bros., the noted Eoinney breeders, were strongly represented by notable speci- . menof the variety. There was a good show of Southdowns, while Shropsliires were unusually conspicuous. The Eyeland breed was exhibited for the first time in considerable numbers. This variety is likely to find considerable vogue. Among fat lamb breeders, C orriedales (the Xew Zealand-made bj£jd of slice]) produced by a combination ol longwool and merino) were largely represented. Sir George Clifford showed a very fine lot oMrst-cross Lin-coln-Merinos. Fat sheep were much better than usual, having come on remarkably well since shearing. Merinos in most sections were also very good. Draught horses all'orded all excellent display as a whdle, although, of course, they were not up to last year's number. With very few exceptions, all the entrants were true to type. The judges ( -Messrs. Alexander and Patrick), being large importers, it was anticipated that they would favor the new stamp with lighter form and bone. As events proved, however, they distributed their awards fairly evenly among the old and new types. For the first time in its brilliant career Mr. J. Boag's lfoyal Standard was beaten in the aged entire class, Mr. J. Small's Baron Carlton (imported) being first, Mr. T. Davidson's -New Zealand-bred Here 1 Go being second, Mr. John Shearer's Premier's Pride third, and Mr. K. Mcintosh's Glenzier (imported) v.h.c. In the three-year-old entire class. Mr. D. Morrow's -Monlalto 111. was first, Wyllio Bros' Black Knight second, and Mr. 11. Saunders' Prince Robert third. For two-year-olds, Mr. W. F. R. Buckley's colt was first, Mr. J. Shearer's Premier Craig second, and the same owner's Premier Adair third. The brood mares were an excellent class throughout, the average of Canterbury quality being admirably maintained. In the working classes, however, there was a disastrous falling oil, aud the remarkable circumstance of ; only three geldings of any age bgiii" i found was recorded. p

Shorthorn cattle made a magnificent show. In Herefords Mr. G. 1\ Moore OVmiganui) was the only exhibitor. Mr. I!. 11. Rhodes showed some fine Red foiled cattle. Jerseys were fairly well represented, while in Ayrshires, SunnySide Mental Asylum and Dr. Levinge were practically the only exhibitors, providing, as they did, a most numerous entry. -Mr. R. Jj. Clarkson exhibited fat stock largely, Mr. G. F. Moore entering the lists with him. Mt.-W. F. M. Buckley gained first tor fat steers, ami Mr. A. J. Keith the award for fat cows. Mr. J. 0. X. Grigg showed a number of Dutch Fi-esan cattle. The Canterbury A^i'i ; ■ : 1 College gained the Shorthorn bull championship with Riby of Beaulieu, Mr. A. Chamberlain's Ambush being accorded reserve dhamplonship. John Dean's estate was first for three-year-old bull.
