The result is that 1,412,000 protests have been received against the President's too frequent exercise of Ilia prerogative to commute death sentences, while only 328,000 supported the President's action, A RUSSIAN REVOLUTIONARY. Lord Elclio stated at a meeting of the London County Council that the moat recent offer made by the Commonwealth Government for a Strand site for the proposed High Commissioner's, office was £3OOO per annum lielow the official appraisement. He hoped the negotiations would be reopened, as he had every reason to believe that the Commonwealth had not made its final offer.
A DANGEROUS BUTLER. London, November 8. A man named Woolterton, formerly butler to Mr. Cory Wright, Justice of the Peace, was sentenced to seven years' penal servitude at the Herts Assizes for entering Mr. Wright's bedroom, brandishing a revolver, and demanding ten thousand pounds or Mr. Wright's life. Woolterton accepted ten pounds and made an appointment to receive more. When he arrived at the rendezvous ha was arrested. "■"'■'ss.4i COAL STEAMER ON FIRE. New York, November 6.
