Mr (!. Wade, who has been seriously ill for some time with pneumonia, is progressing slowly towards recovery.

KAIIOTL". Several of our local residens have, ga.ic to Auckland during the past week on a holiday and the township appears deserted. Those away at present are Messrs Hood (our local boniface), Green (manager of the Crown Dairy Co.), A. D. Fielder, and F. West. The member.; of the local rifle club attempted to hold a competition at ihe range on Saturday but tne roughness of the weather—rain and wind—prevented them.

Complaints are rife, about a \lisca e known as Maori itch, which, it is stitj.!, is very prevalent tit the local school. The attention of the Education Board has, I understand, been drawn t•> the matter, but so fur nothing his hem done. Some of the parents are of opinion that the school s-hould be eloscil, as the complaint is spreading. As two Maori ladies were driving home from Parihaka the other day tjhey met with a mishap that was amusing to all but themselves. When near Oaonui they attempted to turn their frap, but misjudged the road and capsized he vehicle into a swamp. Help was forthcoining quickly, and one lady was easily extricated; the other being of large proportions, required the assistance of some half-dozen bystanders before she could be extricated from the swamp in which she was deposited.
