ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

Per Press Association. > Napier, December 23". A man named William Goullet, eatployed on the breakwater, met with a fatal accident about 0.30 on Saturday evening. Goullet was engaged in tripping the monkey in connection with pilii driving operations, and by some means overbalanced himself and swung round as the monkey descended, causing it to strike him as it fell. The deceased's .right arm was. severed from the body, and all the: shoulder bones were broken, the 1 shoulder and elbow being literally smashed to a pulp. After being struck, the body fell into the water and sank, being recovered 45 minutes afterwards by the harbour master* Deceased was 33 years of age, and is, a married man with one child. ' / Napier, December 23. A young man named Ernest Austin met with a serious accident ia|Caii-, lyle-street last evening. Ho was seen riding down the street leading another horse. Ho was subsequently thrown, his foot catching in the Btiiv 1 flip, and lie was dragged some dijs- • tance. His face was badly bruised, and he sustained a slight concussiom of the brain. He was admitted to. the hospital, where he is doiiig as we lli V as could be expected.
