LAND BILL CAMPAIGN.

HON. R. McNAB IN TIIE NORTH j PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, December 2. The liveliest and nw:t interesting meeting addicssed by the Hon. R. McNdb, Minister for Lands, during his present tour of the district was that which assembled at Papakuta (about 20 miles south of Auck and in the Manukau electorate) on Saturday evening. Theie was a large attendance. Tlie speech was on the lines of Mr McNab's previous address. He admitted that he was in a district hos.ile to the Land Bill, and said he did not believe in disguising- opposition, but in m.eting and endeavouring to overcome it. In concluding his speech he referred to next session's fight oil the Bi 1, and said that in the event of ihc measure being defeated, we know what attitude ought to be adopted by honest and honourublmen—to step off the platform. A vote of thanks to Mr McNab and one of confidence in the Government was moved by Mr E. S. Cole. Mr J. Flanagan (secretary of the Drury Farmers' Union) moved and Mi E, Morgan (p"esident of the same body) seconded the following amendment, "That this meeting, whilst thanking- Mr McNab. for his able address, is of opinion that no Land Bd v\ill be acceptable that does not contain provisi ii whereby future settlers on Crown lands can obtain option of the, freehold."'' On a show nf hands being taken, the amendment was carried by a large majority, amidst loud applause and cheers, and cries of "The freehold." Mr McNab thanked them for their vote of thanks, and acknowledged the decision they had arrived at. The meeting broke up l .villi cheers for Mr Lang, and counter cheers for Mr Ballard.
