The Duke of Norfolk introduced to Lord Lansdowne a deputation of Catholics from all parts of England and. Wales urging the Lords to adhere to the amendments. Some of the spokesmen declared the Bill even now did not meet their requirements. Lord Lansdowne, in reply, said he could hardly believe that the Government would reject the Lords amendmeats wholesale. If the Bill were thus treated, the Lords would not shirk from the challenge. Lord Lansdowne and the Duke of Devonshire resumed the debate in the Home of Lords on the Education Bill, with temperate speeches. The Government's original proposal for religious instruction on two morning! per week in ordinary facilities schools was restored. Lord Salisbury's amendment to grant facilities to any single school area in response to the wishes of a reasonable number of parents, was adopted. The majority of parents necessary to secure the special facilities was raised to two-thirds.
