VOLUNTEERING.
There was such a small muster of the Taranaki Guards oil parade last night lliat no capitation was earned, not half tlio company being present. Captain Mills commented on the meagre attendance, and showed Ins displeasure by inflicting a line of a sliill'Hg upon each absentee. Sergeant Harkness de l; vered a useful addi'ess on practical iille-sliooling. Captain Mills said he hoped-that more members of the company would take part in the remaining two rilleshooting competitions, and also urged the company to be represented in some of the competitions at the Military Tournament in Clinstehureh during the Exhibition period. It is probable that one team will be sent.
The Guards' annual camp of iustrucion will be held in January next.
