STRATFORD NOTES.

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) Major General Babington will inspect the Stratford Mounted Rifles on June 7th, Mr F. W. Furket, the Public Works Department's Resident Engineer, at Stratford, has received news of his promotion to the Main Trunk Railway Works. Mr Furket leaves for Taihape shortly. General regret will be felt at his departure, as he is well liked by both workmen and townspeople. Bcrnand Irwin, on remand, charged with breaking and entering, appeared at the Police Court this morning, and was further remanded till Wednesday next, when the case will be heard before theS.M. A man was arrested by the police to-day on a charge of lunacy, and, on the certificates of Drs Carbery and Pagot, was committed to the Avondale Asylum. Mr Tom Gooch has sold the goodwill of the Midhirst Hotel to Mr C. Bennett, of New Plymouth. Mr R. A, Brown, teachor at the Stratford District School has, I understand, accepted a position in the Fielding School. Mr Brown will be missed by the scholars. Mr Geo.
