NELSON CARNIVAL.
I'EU HtESS ASSOCIATION. Nelson, January 28. The city is full of visitor for the Carnival, the steamers having brought large numbers during the past week, and about eight hundred arrived to-day. The Carnival was originally intended as a celebration of the Trafalgar centenary, but the season being inconvenient, it was decided to hold it at the same time as the anniversary of Nelson. A full week's festivities have been arranged, and proceedings begun to-day with a ehurchparade, attended by volunteer lirenion, including the representatives to the Fire Brigades Conference, as well as the bands taking part in the baud contest. Those in the parade had to proceed to several churches. To-day it has been rather showery, but Lopes arc entertained for line weather. Tiie city is gaily decorated with bunting, paims, etc.
