Hev. Dr. Neligan, Bishop of Auckland. Fortunately the grounds afforded a most welcome shelter from the prevailing wind and dust, so that the visitors thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The gathering wag a very representative one, n any of those present making the J personal acquaintance of the Hishop j for the (irst| lime. The Vicar and ' Mrs Evans cordially welcomed their 1 guests, and introduced them to Mr. Nelignn, who, throughout, the afternoon, was fully occupi.d in genial ' converse with those present. 'The space from the verandah to. the edge I of the lawn had been covered in, and j a piano had been installed under this shelter, so that the guests had ■ the pleasure of hearing some exceli lent songs and instrumental duets, I the latter being contributed by Mr , Carry and his son. J Misses ('hong, . \V. Nixon and Tuka, the Rev. A. I llradbury, and Mr Hill (Wellington) each contributed vocal items, all of . which were received with nearly ap- i planse. Afternoon tea was handed round by several young ladies, , who were kept busy in their endea- | voiirs to ensure that every guest I should be supplied w Ih the welcome j refreshment so liberally provided. It was a great pleasure, to many of those present to notice that, an- , parently. the immense amount of j work which Bishop Neligan has got through since entering into the Hi- . shopric (and in the matter of travelling alone he has covered somewhere about 11,000 miles) has left no trace of wear and tear visible.

in laci, no appears \o m; pumenially lit for the arduous journey into the hack-blocks that ho is about to undertake. It wns abundantly evident yestorday that all present were deeply sensible of the strenuous efforts Hishop Neligan is making to further the high and noble work in which he is engaged, and the largo attendance (imply demonstrated the deep respect and esteem in which the ISishop is held by the parishioners in this district.
