Ok'ey ' (chairman), Uill, Andrews, Gray, ' Hopson, Brown, and McDonald, —Foremen's Report..— John W. Orr reported that most j of his time last month had been spent on J unction Houd. A new. cul- i vert h a d been put in at the corner of 1 Mangorei Road. Another j| new cul- : vert had 'been placed near the Mangorei bridge and the road raised , between two and three feet at a cost i of £4 extra labour and carting. Several days had been put in on the Zig-zag cutting scrub and cleaning .water-tables, The small bridge 1 known as Patterson's is very rotten, j and should be repaired as soon as possible. The bridge near Norfolk j Koad has the centre stringer broken on the south side. This should be renewed. He drew the attention of ' the council to the injury done to the ( Manganui bridge, on the Junction j 1 'Road, by fast traffic. He considered steps should bo taken to stop | this over all bridges. The Mua Road Board i wrote ob-! 1 jecting to the culvert on the Man- 1 gorei Road, stating that it was unsuitable, as it did not carry away tho water away properly. , Some discussion took place on the subject, and Crs. Browne and Hopson were finally (authorised to deal jvith the matter. The foreman was instructed to employ a carpenter to repair Paterson's bridge. In regard to the fast traffic nuisance, th# foreman stated that milk carts were responsible for most of the trouble. Cr. Gray thought the only remedy was to prosecute offenders. The foreman was instructed to ' Keep his eye open for offenders with a view to taking legal steps against [ them,Mr N. G. Walker, Moa riding fore- [ man, reported that 100 yards of ' metal were required for the road between Waiongona. and Inglewood ; 50 yards between Inglewood and NorJ folk Road ; 50 yards "between the ' bacon factory and Upland Road ; 50 : yards Mangorei and 1 Kent Roads ; 100 yards Mangorei to New Ply- . mouth. A smafl bridge near Nor- ; folE Roari railway; station is unfit for heavy traffic, such as traction engines. A concrete culvert would be 1 the best; oft by Oft would, carry ' away the water. Tbe New Plymouth Borough Council has taken 5 yards ! for patching holes, and he also put in one yard of patching on account of the borough at a cost of about 1 6s ftd per yard. ! He suggested that tenders : be called for repairs with the metal 5 from the beach or the Waiwakaiho. i Filling in over concrete culverts near i Puniho had been finished at a cost of i £6 4s. The new culvert asked for , by the Omata Road Board would re- > quire 44 feet of piping. The board , should pay half the cost, as it will - have as much water going through as -the council. Ho suggested that f Mr John Honeyfield 'be asked to . make better protection to the break- * water road where he has the water . dam near the freezing works, as the i constant lapping; of the water is i wearing away the road bank. When i the banks are made good willow - planting would meet the case. The council decided to put in the . Omata culvert ' provided the Road . Board pay the half share. Cr. Gray referred to the portion of . the report regarding the breakwater t road. He said something should be . done to repair the road, t The Chairman said the 'bus traffic t to the port was very heavy, and 1 was responsible for tho .wearing of the road. t The matter was deferred pending s inquiry as to the supply of metal j available.
