TARANAKI CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. The Concluding Day. Beautiful weather prevailed lor the final clay of the Taranaki .Lawn Tennis Association's annual tournament, livid this year on the New Plymouth Club's courts, which were, by the way, in very good order. There wit a a large attendance of the public, who displayed not a little interest in the progress of the games, all of .which, being for priority of position, induced line displays. A specially cnjoyuble feature, from the spectators' point of view, was that allorded by the exhibition game played by Miss Nunneley an'd Mr 11. A. Parker against Miss Powdrell and Mr A. G. Wallace. The latter secured the first set, thus adding zest to the encounter, which, however, ended in favour of the invincible champions, the scores being 4—6, (j d ( t) 3 ■ Dr. Leatham presented the prizes during the afternoon, and while do--1 ing so took occasion to congratulate the players and the association on I'lie success of the tournament, lie also, on behalf of the management (the New Plymouth Tennis Club) thanked the ladies who had so generously provided afternoon tea during the continuance of the three : days' play* The conclusion of the 1905 tournament marks another triumph of management on the part of the officials of the club, as although there were some seventy competitors taking part, no delay of any kind took place, and the business-like arrangements came in for very favourable mention on all hands. Mr H. A. Parker considered the club could show many larger cities points in this respect, and also expressed pleasurabfe astonishment at the aiuount of interest taken in the ! tournty by the general public, of whom there was a record attendance. Final.—Mrs Mannering and Miss Nunneley won by default, owing to Miss Aitken (Miss Powdrell's partner) having to return to Christchurch on Monday. The game was started on Saturday, and after each side liad won a set had to stop, owing to the failing light. . •
